New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is on a seven-day trade mission to India and amid that, he announced three Indian companies with a presence in New Jersey will expand their operations and add more than 1,200 jobs.
The announcement came days after packed meetings with business officials, executives and elected leaders.
Tata Consultancy Services, an Indian information technology service and consulting company, will expand its roughly 4,000 workforces in Metro Park by about 700 people, according to an announcement by Murphy’s administration said.
Larsen & Toubro, another India-based company, is planning to add 600 technology jobs to its roughly 400 workers in Edison.
Birlasoft, which is part of a larger Indian conglomerate CK Birla Group, will add 160 jobs, according to the administration, which said the new jobs are a direct result of work in the lead-up to Murphy’s trade mission and his presence in India.
Jose Lozano, the Chief Executive Officer of Choose New Jersey, which is funding the trip, said:
We told them what we have. We told them out assets, we told them our location, and we told them who we are.

Besides, Murphy is pitching Bollywood filmmakers to make more films in New Jersey. He also announced a permanent New Jersey representation office in New Delhi.
According to Murphy, New Jersey is an attractive place for Indian business to grow because there’s talent, location, and comfort packaged together in the Garden State. Indian Americans comprise the largest group in the state among foreign-born residents in the state.
According to the latest United States Census data, nearly 300,000 Indians are living in New Jersey.
