The protest culminated in demonstrations outside the federal immigration court in Manhattan.

Scottie Lopez came undocumented to the USA with his family and worked towards citizenship, he owns three Café Con Pon bakeries on Staten Island. All were closed on Thursday. It was the first time in the business’s 10-year history that its doors were closed on a business day.

The family took Facebook to share their views “Through this boycott we hope to demonstrate what a day without our entire immigrant brothers and sisters working and spending to contribute to our economy would look like,”

Lopez later said that he loves America with all his heart and it pains him that people dislike them just for where they come from.

Protesters actively participated in rallies in Hunts Point in the Bronx before dawn on Thursday morning. The neighborhood is the center of one of the world’s largest food distributors, and the protestors were believed to be workers.

The Blue Ribbon restaurant group in New York City closed all of its seven restaurants and their 500 employees stayed home. Among them are Blue Ribbon Brasserie, Blue Ribbon Brooklyn, and Blue Ribbon Sushi.

Dziupla Restaurant in Williamsburg posted announcements to their customers on Instagram.
