New York Red Bull criticised for mocking Frank Lampard

Football club New York Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS) were hugely criticised after they mocked former Chelsea and Manchester City Player 38-year-old “Frank Lampard” after he announced his final good-bye from the game on Thursday (Feb 2nd).

After a long and successful run in Premier League with Football club Chelsea and a premier brief stint at Manchester City. Later Lampard joined New York City FC the rivals of Red Bulls.

His achievements were greatly celebrated across the social media after his retirement announcement with many of his peers and former clubs paying tribute.

However New York Red Bulls chose a different style to show their tribute by posting an animated gif of Lampard being nutmegged by Mike Grella during a 7-0 defeat of their New York rivals in May last year for which they hugely were criticized.

The gif was carried with a message, simply reading “bye”, and was widely condemned as “classless” by other Twitter users.

Lampard’s successful career was recognized by many other clubs, including ones he did not represent during his 19 years as a player.

Spanish giants Barcelona, who Lampard face 11 times on separate occasions tweeted Football is filled not only with rivalries, but also with indelible memories. Thanks, Frank Lampard, for your contributions to the game.”

During his career at Chelsea as a mid-fielder, he won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Europa League and the Champions League.

Lampard ended his spell at Stamford Bride the home ground of Chelsea as the club’s leading goal scorer with 211 goals.

​From his debut in 1999 to 2014 the former England international also made 106 caps for the senior team.
