A 47-year-old Sikh man was shot dead at his gas station in the United States (US) city of Newark in an an incident described as a hate crime by his family.
Davinder Singh was found unresponsive at his gas station. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
His son, Jatinder Singh, said that, “There was no robbery, no struggle, no confrontation. I don’t know what else it could be other than a hate crime.”
His father had just stepped out of office to get some fresh air when a man “came up to my dad, pointed a gun and shot him point-blank”, Jatinder said.
The shooting is being investigated by the detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force. They have not yet called the case as a hate crime.
